Title: 6 Ways to Get Around Indy Without a Car

One of the best things about living in Indianapolis is how easily you can get from place to place. According to Walk Score, it’s a walker and biker’s paradise, and River West's brand new bike storage room makes it even easier to grab your bike and go. The city also has many options for transportation. Here are six ways to get around Indy without a car.

Indiana Pacers Bikeshare

Downtown Indy is home to 525 golden bikes available to you any time you need one. The Indiana Pacers Bikeshare is a program of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc., named after our own Indiana Pacers basketball team. Get a bike and return it at any one of the 50 bike stations across Indianapolis. Bikes are available 24/7, year-round, and the cost is $1 to ride and 15 cents per minute for the duration of the trip. For added convenience for frequent cyclers, download the B-Cycle app.

You actually have four options for scooter shares in Indianapolis: Bird (black and white), Lime (green), Lyft (black and purple), and Spin (black and orange). Each company has its own apps, pricing, rules, and rental stations, so check them out individually to determine which one works best for you.

IndyGo bus transportation

IndyGo is the largest public transportation provider in the state of Indiana and operates 30 transit routes across Marion County. Visit IndyGo.net to plan a trip and purchase passes. Download the MyStop app to track your bus.

Both Uber and Lyft are available ride sharing options in Indianapolis. Vsit their individual websites and enter pick-up and destination addresses to get a price estimate. Always follow these ride-sharing safety tips: Wait for your driver in a safe, well-lit area; ask the driver to confirm your name; verify the car and driver; make sure you follow all rules required by the company. You can use Uber and Lyft’s apps to check a driver’s ratings and leave your own feedback as well.

Traditional taxi service

Visit Indy.gov for a list of currently licensed taxi companies in Indianapolis. Additionally, five Indianapolis taxi companies participate in a $5 regional fare agreement. The $5 rate applies to any ride that begins and ends in the regional center.
