Fall on the White River

Fall in downtown Indianapolis is a terrific time to enjoy the White River. The leaves are changing, the mosquitos are gone, and we’re not all dripping with sweat. This lively area of the city holds fun for all ages. Here are just a few events you can take advantage of when you live in apartments downtown near the White River.

Pedal boating on the Canal

While boating is most often associated with summertime, the moderate temperatures in Indianapolis mean pedal boating and kayaking is still an option in the fall. Wheel Fun Rentals is open weekends (weather permitting) from noon until sunset through October 24th, and weekdays by reservation for private groups and parties. Also ask about renting Surreys, city bicycles, and electric bikes.

Zoo Boo

This event hosted by the Indianapolis Zoo takes place each Wednesday through Sunday in October and offers fun for all ages. Active animals and fall foliage make this month ideal for exploring the Indianapolis Zoo. Enjoy a whimsical Halloween village, mystery maze, spooky train ride, and two trick-or-treat trails-- one is especially for adults! The event is included with your zoo membership, or you can check dates and times and purchase tickets online.

Fall concerts at White River State Park

If you want to spend an evening under the stars watching your favorite live music, White River State Park is just two miles from the River West Flats. (And if you have that Indianapolis Zoo membership, event parking is reduced for zoo members.) Take a look at this fall’s event schedule.

Downtown Indy Road Races

If you’re a runner, you already know the fall is peak road-racing season, and downtown Indy is a great place to lace up and see the city on foot. The Junior League Scarlet 5K takes place October 3rd, beginning and finishing at White River State Park Celebration Plaza. For a larger-scale event, the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon takes place on November 6th. You’ll take a tour through some of the most notable monuments and markers in Indianapolis, including the Indiana State Capital, Arts Garden, and Lucas Oil Stadium.
